Gene Shepherd, Sr. Minister
Since beginning his first ministry in 1973, Pastor Gene has served with churches and Christian colleges in Missouri, Illinois, Texas, and California before coming to AFCC in 1999. He is a graduate of both Lincoln Christian College and Lincoln Christian Seminary. Gene married his wife Marsha in 1975, with whom he has two daughters and two grandchildren. Gene is an award-winning fiber artist, designer, and author who specializes in traditional hand hooked rugs.

Becky Ahlberg, Worship Minister
Becky, who joined the staff at AFCC in 1993, serves as Minister of Worship and Executive Director of My Safe Harbor. In her 40 years of professional ministry, she has served on the staff of congregations in Michigan and California, as well as a part of the music faculty at Hope International University. She has also served as the Executive Director of the National Church Music Conference since 1997. Married to husband Dan since 1974, they enjoy their three grown sons, as well as their two grandchildren.

Tammy Shields, Children’s Minister
Although Tammy has been working in the children’s program (infants through 6th grade) at AFCC since 1994, she did not join the staff as Children’s Minister until 2006. A graduate of Hope International University with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters Degree in Education, she has also taught five years in a private elementary school. Happily married to husband Jim since 1993, they are the parents of three children. In her free time she likes to scrapbook.
Rick Terry, Music Minister

Fernando Soto, Hispanic Minister
Fernando, from Chile, came to Southern California as a missionary with CMF International in 1998. In ten years he planted two Hispanic congregations and started a Marriage Encounter program. The Sotos came to AFCC in 2009 when Agape Church and AFCC Hispanic ministry merged. Fernando teaches at Crossmont Institute (Hope International University Spanish Program) and at CHET (Hispanic Center for Theological Studies). Fernando and his wife Nona have been married for 27 years, and they have three children and two granddaughters.

Susan Madrigal, Administrative Assistant
Susan, a southern California native, joined AFCC as a part-time receptionist in September of 2001. She then became the administrative assistant in 2003 and is currently enrolled in the SPS program of Hope University and is working toward her bachelor degree in Human Development with emphasis in counseling. Susan has three children and two granddaughters.
